Due to subsidence of part of the embankment of the A420 Cumnor Bypass, repair work is due to be carried out that will facilitate a road closure on the westbound carriageway. OCC currently have no information on when this will happen but it will be in 2015; most likely in April and May.
The closure will be in place from early April 2015 for up to 8 weeks from the Botley Interchange roundabout to the B4017 Abingdon Road junction and a diversion will be in place via the A34, A4183 and B4017.
You can view a map of the diversion by clicking here.
Previous attempts to repair the road surface have proved unsuccessful and a full repair of the embankment is now required. Due to the proximity of electricity pylons, the work will be carried from the road itself and from Tilbury Lane, Botley. Once the embankment has been repaired, the westbound carriageway will be resurfaced. The eastbound carriageway will be open and unaffected during the work. On conclusion of the eastbound repairs, a short section of the east bound will be resurfaced at night.

It is estimated that currently 15,000 vehicles per day use the section of the Westbound A420 that is due to be closed.
